Eighteen years ago, our founders shared a vision with a small group of people who believed deeply in what was possible. One of those supporters made an extraordinary commitment: they purchased the land where Ütz B'ey Guatemala is rooted today, giving the programme a permanent home and helping turn a dream into reality.
Since then, hundreds of children and families have benefited from a safe place to learn, grow, and thrive. Together, we have built something lasting. Now, we have an opportunity to protect it.
A DEFINING MOMENT
In January 2024, we launched a new three-year strategy focused on three priorities:
1. Deepening community connection and local ownership.
2. Building greater financial stability.
3. Strengthening local leadership.
These priorities were shared by the landowners themselves. In response, they made an incredible offer:
If we can successfully achieve these goals by the end of 2027, they will gift the land permanently to Ütz B'ey Guatemala.
This would be transformational.
It would secure the future home of the Project, remove one of our greatest long-term vulnerabilities, and place the future of the organisation fully in the hands of local leadership, exactly where it belongs.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The communities we serve continue to face significant challenges. In Guatemala, more than 60% of Indigenous children experience chronic malnutrition, 73% of adolescents do not complete lower secondary education, and access to healthcare remains limited in many rural communities.
For eighteen years, Ütz B'ey Guatemala has worked alongside families to help address these challenges through education, nutrition, and community healthcare. Every child in our programme receives nutritious meals each day, at least 85% of children in our care reach or maintain a healthy weight range, and our community health clinic serves more than 1,000 local residents.
This work is making a difference. Securing the future of the organisation will help ensure that difference continues for years to come.
BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Over the next 18 months, we have committed to raising $150,000 while strengthening the foundations that will support the organisation long into the future.
This means growing support from our donor community, developing more consistent year-round giving, and creating a more stable and resilient financial base.
